Another WONDERFUL book!
A week or so ago I finished the book "Penny from Heaven". It is another REALLY good book! This is a book about an Italian girl named Penny, who lives in the year 1953, and dreams about a wonderful summer filled with Dodger games, butter pecan ice cream, and swimming. But, her summer holds many unpleasant surprises. Her mother won't let her go to the pool because she fears she'll catch polio, her favorite uncle is living in a car, her nonny cries every time she sees her, and the two sides of her family won't talk to each other! And, to make matters worse, her mother is dating the milkman! Can Penny survive this summer?
I LOVE this book!!!
I just recently (like three minutes ago!) finished the book "Nick of Time".It's a really, really awesome book! It's about a boy named Nick, who lives in England at the time of World War 2. He becomes a spy, gathering important information about the Nazis. Then, the Nazis become the least of Nick's problems when he finds a chest that has his name on it, and when he meets a time travailing pirate named Billy Bones. Bones travels through time kidnapping wealthy children and holing them for ransom! Unfortunately, Billy will do anything to get Nick's chest! Nick must fight Bones in two different centuries, on land and sea. Can Nick defeat Billy and save his home and family?

"Not even God can sink this ship!" Really?
For a week or so now we've been doing a Titanic study and I wrote a report on it! I hope you enjoy!
The Titanic was a British Cruise liner steam boat going to New York. She was the biggest boat built in her time, and was thought unsinkable. Captain Edward J. Smith even had a plaque up by his steering wheel that said, "Not even God can sink this ship!"
On the night of April 14, 1912, the Titanic went a bit of course and was racing full speed ahead to make headlines with an early arrival, ignoring all the iceberg warnings. Then, one of the lookouts saw a massive iceberg, and the Titanic was heading straight for it at 25 miles per hour! When She hit the iceberg it did not cause a huge hole, but a series of splits on Her sides and bottom!
The captain ordered for the life boats to be launched, but when they were launched they weren't full!
Far away the Carpathia, another big ship, heard the Titanic's distress calls and started to come to the Titanic's aid.
The Titanic was built with water tight chambers and was designed to survive the flooding of the first two forward compartments, or any 4 others. But, the splits opened up the first 5, and the splits let in enough water to overwhelm the ship. Finally the huge, 900 foot ship started to sink! Then suddenly the ship started to break apart. When it broke apart it started to break one way but the water pushed it to break the other way. The front part of the Titanic went down first, causing the stern to turn directly vertical! When the front side sank it's estimated that it sank at the same speed the Titanic was going when it hit the iceberg.
Finally the Carpathia arrived, and took the survivors to New York. The next day the Government held a council with the survivors asking them about what they had witnessed. Then they counted all the survivors and found out that over 1,000 people had died.
Well, the reason the Titanic hit the iceberg is because the captain wanted to make headlines! They sure made head lines alright! It's like the Bible says, "pride comes before a fall."
Something to think about....
The Titanic sinking was not just a coincidence, but because of it's pride. Remember the plaque that said God couldn't sink the Titanic? The Titanic sunk because it was challenging God. It sunk because the crew and captain were being arrogant, ignoring the iceberg warnings. So, we must not be like the Titanic! We must not be prideful or arrogant. We must not challenge God. Or we will fall.
Love,
Ashley

Knowing that my God and Savior love me. Knowing where I'm going when I die. And knowing that my God is ALWAYS with me so I don't have to be afraid. 2. I decided to blog because well, actually because my mom told me to, she said it would be good for school and really fun.
